Board of Directors
Troy Rushmeyer (Chair)
Troy is passionate about being a positive influence for the youth in our community. He grew up playing baseball with Brainerd Parks and Recreation as well as pick-up games all summer long at Mills field (just down the street from his grandparents' house). Troy played football, basketball and baseball in the Brainerd school district until a back injury sidelined him after 10th grade, and for the rest of his high school sports career. He played adult softball for many years in the Brainerd area. "It’s been hard to watch the Brainerd youth travel and recreation baseball programs dwindle in numbers/participants over the last decade or so in comparison to what it once was. My dream is to bring this longstanding tradition back for the upcoming kids and families in our community." Troy’s coaching experience includes 23 years with Brainerd Parks and Recreation (Girls Softball and Boys Baseball), and 12 years with Brainerd Boys Traveling Baseball.
Troy currently serves as Vice President for the Brainerd Park Board, and is a High School faith formation group leader for St. Andrews Catholic Church. He is a Registered Nurse, serving in the ICU at Essentia Health, SJMC. Troy has also been a welder/fabricator for nearly 30 years.
Troy and his wife, Katy, have a daughter, Riley, three sons Steven, Trenton and Noah. They also have a grandson, Kale.
Derek Owen (Vice-Chair)
Derek grew up in Brainerd playing recreation and travel baseball. He captained the 1998 High School Team to the State Tournament, competed in the 2000 Junior College World Series with Central Lakes College, and finished his career at Bemidji State. Derek is on the Nisswa Fire Department and works for GrowthZone. He has coached his son the last 3 years in the Brainerd Mustang and Bronco League. He looks forward to the opportunity to grow the traveling program here in Brainerd.

Both boys attend Brainerd schools, and have been active in ball through the Brainerd Parks and Recreation program for several years. Jack has also played for the Brainerd traveling baseball team since 2013. She is excited to afford Ben this same opportunity with the new BLABA program.
Ann is employed with Ascensus, and enjoys volunteering for her church and community.

"It has been an amazing experience to watch our boys play baseball, and we are excited for the opportunities that the new BLABA program will offer the youth in our area."
Brian is employed as Public Works Administrator for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, and enjoys elk and deer hunting, and ice fishing with his boys.
Zach was born and raised in Baxter, MN. While growing up in Brainerd, he played soccer, football, basketball, and baseball; football and baseball in high school.
His favorite sport was baseball and he played Brainerd Travel Baseball from the age of 9-15. After high school he played one year at Central Lakes College in Brainerd. Following CLC, he attended North Dakota State University to play baseball on scholarship from 2008-2011.
Sports have been a central commonality with his family and extended family, especially baseball. His grandfather, and recently his dad Randy, were inducted into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. Before moving back to Brainerd, he had worked with one-on-one baseball training in Fargo for 2 years. He now wants to give back to the Brainerd baseball community, and is thrilled to work with the Brainerd Lakes Area Baseball Association, and the entire Brainerd/Baxter community, to enhance the baseball opportunity for our youth.
John is a 28 year Brainerd resident, along with his wife, Sara. They have two boys, both of which have participated in Brainerd Parks and Rec. sports. Their boys have also been Warrior Baseball players, and the youngest plays on a Brainerd Travel Team. "I have been fortunate to have been given the opportunity to assist in coaching in both the Rec. league and travel league for the past 6 years." Baseball is an important part of their family life and he is proud to be a member and supporter of the Brainerd Lakes Area Baseball Association!
